Trees for autumn colour
We’ve selected the best (mainly deciduous) trees for a show-stopping display of autumn colour. These trees will brighten up your garden in a sea of stunning foliage colour, often in fiery shades or reds, yellows and oranges, as the darker days of winter start to approach. They’ll deliver a colour boost at a time when most flowers have long finished their display. Pay particular attention to the eventual height of the tree you’re looking to buy and how this compares to the space you have available. Bearing in mind the mature height, never plant it too close to the house for the roots to threaten the foundations. That said, you don’t need a huge garden a enjoy trees with autumn colour – we have a wide selection of varieties that can ignite more modest plots too. Choose Robinia Frisia for sheets of bright yellow foliage, getting brighter as the season goes on before losing its leaves in the autumn. Alternatively, Acer griseum, the paper bark maple, has beautiful, peeling, orange-brown bark and produces a firework display of autumn colour from crimson red to scarlet pink. For smaller gardens or container plantings, consider our range of Japanese maple trees. You can use the Product Filters to narrow your selection further by eventual height/spread, aspect, soil type and hardiness.
