Small and Dwarf Evergreen Shrubs
Evergreen shrubs are the backbone of any garden, providing permanency and structure to beds and borders, acting as both a foil to showier annuals and bedding as well as boasting ornamental features of their own such as flowers and winter berries. Compact varieties are well suited to smaller gardens, including particularly dainty growers that work well in pots and containers on a patio or balcony. If you’re gardening on acid soil, small evergreen shrub options include pieris, camellia, hydrangea, ceanothus and skimmia, alternatively dwarf azaleas. Evergreen shrubs also make excellent topiary plants, trained or clipped into clearly defined, geometric or fanciful shapes and can also provide year-round coverage and food for birds and wildlife in your garden.
