Having a smaller plot doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful and thriving outdoor space all year round. The key is thinking creatively to make the most of the footprint you have available. In modest spaces it’s best to opt for a simple, coherent theme build around no more than 3-4 colours. Check the eventual height and spread of any plants you consider to make sure they won’t become unsuitable for your space over time, even if they look great today. Climbing plants are highly versatile, bringing fabulous colour, interest and fragrance on a modest footprint. Consider low maintenance plants if you will have more limited time to devote to your garden.
