Perennials with blue flowers
Perennials with blue flowers bring a cooling and calming effect to any planting scheme. They combine well with purple and violet flowers to complete a display of cool colours or, alternatively, contrast effectively against oranges, orangey-reds and yellows, helping to balance out and moderate the warm tones of these more vibrant flowers. Blue is a rare flower colour with scarcity value – less than 10% of flowering plants have bluey hues. Perennials with blue blooms can range from light sky blue such as Brunnera 'Jack Frost' to deep indigo blues like Veronica 'Royal Candles'. Some of our favourite blue flowering perennials are Agapanthus 'Delft Blue', Brunnera 'Looking Glass' and Delphinium 'Blue Bird'. By planting blue perennials with different flowering periods, your garden could be singing the blues all the way through from early spring to late autumn!
