Calamagrostis plants
Calamagrostis is a splendid, deciduous ornamental grass with a stiff, upright growth habit and luscious foliage. Renowned for its long, thin, strap-shaped foliage, it produces stunning, relaxed feathery flower plumes, typically in shades of pink, dark purple or brown which evolve into a golden-yellow straw colour as the season progressed into autumn and winter. Calamagrostis are well suited to informal and naturalising, naturalistic planting schemes, effective grown as single standalone specimens or in groups at the back of the border. It is unfussy providing the ground does not lie wet and easy to grow for even the least green fingered of gardeners. Cut stems back to ground level in late winter to maintain a tidy appearance. The blooms are well suited to using in dried flower arrangements, while the cut-back foliage in the winter can be added to the compost heap.
