Climbing plants with red flowers
Nothing is more beautiful than a red flowering climber in full bloom. We stock a wide range of twining red varieties, perfect for clothing a wall, fence, pergola, arch, arbour or trellis. Some of the best red clematis are Clematis Kermesina, a late flowering group 3 with deep crimson flowers, blotched white at the base; Clematis Madame Julia Correvon, producing masses of wine-red star-shaped blooms with yellow stamens; and Clematis Rouge Cardinal, a free flowering cultivar bearing large, velvety purple-red blooms of up to 10cm in diameter. Several honeysuckle climbers have tropical-looking, cartwheel-shaped pink blooms, well suited to the cottage garden, while Jasminum beesianum makes an excellent choice with divine, carmine-red, velvety blooms which are produced above glossy, mid-green leaves between June and July. Alternatively, for a self-clinging variety that will cling to a textured wall or fence without the need for wire support, consider Campsis Madame Galen. Campsis is a large, vigorous climber with this variety producing tropical, deep salmon red, trumpet-shaped blooms from late summer into autumn above dark green deciduous foliage.
