Sowing Time
April - August
Sowing Indoors
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost, Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in the warmth 10-15 degree Celsius (50-60 Fahrenheit), and keep moist.
Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm (2in) apart into trays of potting compost.
Hardening Off/Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out during summer and autumn. Young plants will then become established before the onset of winter. Allow 30cm (12in) between plants.
Sowing Outdoors
Seeds can also be sown outdoors in short pre-watered shallow rows 1cm (1/2in) deep. Lightly cover with a little soil and keep soil moist until seedlings emerge. Thin them out to 2cm (1in) apart when large enough to handle, before transplanting to their permanent positions in autumn.
Flowering Time
