The weeping birch, or Betula pendula Tristis, is an exceptionally graceful tree with long, heavily weeping branches that twist at the tips to form a tall, narrow crown. Sometimes confused with Betula Youngii, it has slightly serrated, elegant green-blue foliage and produces catkins in the spring. Weeping birch is large growing, achieving the largest mature height out of all the birch varieties. It develops the characteristic silver birch bark as it matures and looks particularly impressive in winter when snow or frost frames the canopy. Well suited to large gardens and parks. Eventual height 7 metres, spread 4 metres.
